Review: Incipio DualPro SHINE for the HTC One

For some people the only job a case has is to protect the device and anything above that is only a bonus. It can be difficult to find a case that fits both check-marks in terms of style and protection -- and let's face it, there are many ugly cases out there. The Incipio DualPro SHINE for the HTC One tries to turn the tables and offer something that combines both style and protection without sacrificing either one. It does this with an aluminum finish on the hard shell that's not going to be to everyone's liking. This is a dual-layer case, and you can see the silicone layer through the logo cut-out on the back. Incipio is very fond of having cut-outs in the outer layer for their logo. The silicone by itself is very soft and thin and doesn't provide much protection on its own. Fortunately it fits very easily into the plastic hard shell. Any case that fits together without a struggle is already something to take notice of. Now, even though the back has a shiny (and it is shiny and will catch the light,) aluminum coating, it is still poly-carbonate plastic. You don't have to worry about smudges so much as you do scratches, which will show brilliantly in the light. The DualPro Shine is a standard dual-layer case. In other words, you're not going to find the same levels of protection as you would in, say, an OtterBox. For most people, however, that's going to be just fine. The SHINE offers adequate shock protection and protects the entire body of the One except, of course, for the display. What we have then is a perfectly reliable dual-layer case with a back that's going to make or break it. The aluminum finish catches the light, but it's not going to blind anyone. Whether or not the design choice is right for you is entirely subjective. It should also be noted that even though the volume rocker is protected by the silicone, nothing else is. The Incipio DualPro SHINE for the HTC One does a fine job of combining style and protection. That is, if the aluminum finish isn't a complete turn-off. Scratches and dents will show more prominently on the back than they might on other cases, so take that into consideration. If any of that bothers you, it's time to look elsewhere. The SHINE is not the most durable dual-layer case out there, but it sure does look fine. You can pick up the DualPro SHINE by Incipio for the HTC One in the HTCedia Shop.
