HTC COO Steps Down After a Solid May

Sometimes things get better for HTC, but for the most part they just keep getting worse. HTC COO Matthew Costello has stepped down after joining in 2010. For anyone keeping track, Costello now joins an alarmingly long, and growing, list of HTC executives that have departed the company recently. So, yeah, that's not so good. In other news, HTC had a pretty solid May.They reported a 48% increase in sales, which is certainly nothing to scoff at. Of course, the HTC One is still trailing behind the Galaxy S4, despite critical opinion siding with the One. Things might look even better if the HTC First was a hit, but, well, ya know. HTCPedia at CTIA

You read that right, friends. CTIA is here. While not the largest trade show out there, it's still an important stop for anyone in the wireless market and the overall largest in North America. Set up in the 80's as an international non-profit trade organization, CTIA is a trade show open to both the public and professionals concentrating on wireless communications. The show officially kicks off tomorrow and runs until the 23rd Las Vegas. And this year, HTC's blood runs through the show. That may sound like an odd statement considering that HTC has literally no public presence at the event. Instead, they've been going about their business behind the scenes. HTC has a presence in the Hospitality Suit, which is closed to the public. Besides that they're a sponsor of the show and their logo can be found on the show badges. The badges, by the way, contain an NFC chip which leads to a download of an app for exchanging information with professional peers. CTIA's relevance has been questioned recently, so it would be best for everyone if this year goes on without a hitch. Verizon will hold a conference and have a large presence, perhaps to be paired with a major announcement. The HTC One is on everyone's minds, and Verizon has stated that if they announce their version of the One it will come with a bang. If HTC or Verizon makes a move during the show, we'll have it for you here. In the meantime, you can fill all your HTC needs at the HTCPedia Shop.

HTC Turns to Billboards in the UK

HTC's marketing has so far been minimal, even though they've dropped the "Quietly Brilliant" moniker. A polarizing ad have so far been the most prominent outlet. Not so in the UK, where HTC has recently erected giant billboards in several UK cities. The HTC One has been selling well in North America so far without a huge ad campaign, but that doesn't mean we couldn't use some more marketing muscle over here. Even though announced grown in April, they've still got a long way to go before they're anywhere near the top of the totem poll. The Galaxy S4 has so far not been received as well as the One. You know, in case anyone out there is keeping track. Via: Mobile News

HTC Sees Healthy Growth in April

Even though HTC reported dismal earnings for their Q1 profits, all is still not lost. April earnings were up by about 26% due to the success of the HTC One. HTC has been slowly on the upswing, but their situation is still delicate at best. The One is currently able to do most of the legwork for them and hopefully it will be enough to facilitate a full recovery. For those keeping track, HTC sales are now 71% ahead of what they were in February. If they can keep up their current momentum hopefully by the Fall we'll stop hearing about HTC and their "road to recovery." Via: Unwired View

HTC Quarterly Report Released

HTC have officially sent out a press release for their first quarter results. While the release does much to hype up the HTC One, there is good to be found here. HTC reports a net profit of NT$85 million (roughly $2,874,700.) They also report a quarterly revenue of NT$42.8 billion (roughly $1,454,260,000) and a gross margin of 20.3%. This is the report of a company that has had a rough quarter, but it's certainly not their worst. For Q2, HTC protects their profit margin to increase by 2-4% and their revenue to be around NT$70 million ($2,367,400) which will be a a nice increase. HTC are slowly getting back on their feet, due in no small part to the huge success of the HTC One. While HTC have decided to narrow their focus in the North American market, they have released a bevy of devices in Asia. Source: HTC

HTC is Shutting Down Watch in Some Places in Europe

HTC's Watch service launched in 2011 and has allowed the streaming of music, movies and the like to users' mobile devices. Well, no more! says HTC, anyway. HTC will be shuttering it's Watch service in six European countries: Norway, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, and Denmark. These areas were most likely chosen for the low service usage. As of right now no other country is affected. In all likelihood this is a move to save on capital in areas that don't need it. After all, even though HTC is on the upswing, they still have a long way to go until they're back on their feet. Via: Digital Trends

HDR Mic for HTC One Gone from Spec List

HTC have officially deleted the HDR microphone from the HTC One spec sheet. Nokia was granted a temporary injunction against HTC using the microphones for one year. It won't be long until HTC updates the list to include the new microphones and their supplier. HTC will be allowed to run through their supply of mics that they have already purchased. Via: Engadget

HTC Takes You Behind the HTC One

HTC have released a short behind the scenes video of the HTC One. The short clip focuses on the design of the One rather than any of the tech inside. The One has been praised for its uni-body aluminum design. Of course, this is just an extra bit of marketing, but it's nice to see some of the details of what goes into creating something like this. You'll notice that the clip ends with "everything your phone isn't," which appears to be the new tag-line that they're running with. You can check out the clip right here.

HTC Stocks Upgraded

Things continue to be on the up-swing for HTC. HSBS have raised HTC's stock from underweight to overweight, citing a diverse and strong product line-up as the reason. The Taiwan stock has price has more than doubled (it now sits at around $11,) so if HTC can maintain their momentum things are going to look swell. Underweight stock is stock that is not performing well and will typically return a below average return, while overweight stock is expected to perform better. In other words, over is better than under. This has been: let's learn stocks with HTCpedia. Source: Market Watch

HTC Walks Away from Dutch Nokia Case With a Smile

Reports are coming in that state that HTC was not actually the target of the recent Dutch lawsuit. They real target was STMicroelectronics, the distributors for the microphone components. HTC will be allowed to continue to burn through their stock of HTC One's that contain the mic tech. After that they'll have to find a new supplier. Even though this originally seemed to be another setback, it's actually just a small ripple in a very large pond. HTC were found to be innocent in their knowledge of Nokia's exclusive agreement with STMicroelectronics. JPMorgan Securities have stated that they expect to see very little impact on HTC's revenue because of this incident. HTC are reportedly already on the lookout for a new microphone supplier.
