It would seem the hype and anticipation is over for the release of the HTC Droid from Verizon. In a reported document leak, the wireless carrier confirms the release of the HTC Droid for a mere $99 two-year service contract.

An HTC Droid Eris for $99 from Verizon

While many carriers are pulling out all the stops and entering the Droid market, it seems Verizon Wireless may be getting the upper hand here as they are releasing the HTC Eris for only $99. This comes on the heals of Verizon also releasing the DROID; Verizon’s first Google Android device and running V2.0 to boot, and for only $199. Clearly this positions Verizon at both the low and high end of the market—appealing to a wide user base and giving consumers a nice choice of product.
