Android 2.0 has been ported to HTC’s G1

It didn’t take long after the release of the Android 2.0 source code last night for Steve Kondik to get Android 2.0 to work on the HTC G1 (as can be seen by the Éclair lockscreen and services manager images from Steve’s G1. According to Steve the port is running “really well, fast, and smooth”. There are some issues with the audio/video playback but we should expect that to be fixed soon.

Androids take over iPhones by 2012

Gartner has forecasted that, based on 522 million smartphones being shipped during the next two years, the Android market share, which is only at 1.6% for Q1 2009 will grow to a whopping 14.5% by Q4 2012. So instead of currently being sixth as the most popular operating system for smartphones, Android will move up to second and overtaking Apple who will only grow from 10.8% to 13.7%.Windows Mobile will also grow but, again, only show a 10.3% to 12.8% increase.

HTC says NO to Android 1.6 for the Hero: Moving on to Android 2.0

With all the hype of Android 2.0 we might have expected HTC to skip or bypass various versions of Android in favor of version 2.0.
