A Fond Farewell to the G1

It’s official: T-Mobile has ceased its sales of the G1. Removed from their website, the phone is now more or less extinct. The device that started it all is bringing its chapter in history to a close. The news has come at a decisive moment amongst the Android community, with word of HTC Vision as the HTC G1 Blaze, the official successor to the now defunct handset, as well as a lot of other motion in the market with Google pulling the Nexus One off its online stores as well.

Editorial: A Brief Meditation on Fragmentation and Legacy

Something that has been on my mind lately is what the Android media has deemed as “Fragmentation.” Fragmentation seems to be a catch-all phrase geared towards highlighting the fact that in a mere year and a half the hardware specs, device settings, and overall capability of Android phones has run rampant. Fragmentation refers to the fragmentation of the medium, a veritably splintered family of loosely similar phones with their only true unifying aspect as their Firmware.

T-Mobile is Serving up Donut to G1 and myTouch 3G Customers

abdIt looks like T-Mobile may be ready to undergo an Android 1.6 Donut metamorphosis. According to TmoNews, select G1 devices have received the update and as long as everything went smoothly, the update will be rolled out to their myTouch 3G units.
