Did we see this coming: Windows Mobile smartphone sales plummet

As smartphone sales surged by 13% in the third quarter one would think that this increased sales would necessarily be seen by such a powerhouse as the Windows Mobile operating system supported smartphones. Well, that just wasn’t the case as the sale of smartphones that are running the Windows Mobile operating system actually decreased by 20% in the third quarter according to Gartner.

Was it the disheartening release of Windows Mobile 7, the bad press around Windows Mobile 6.5, or maybe the expected release dates of Android? It has been suggested that the real culprit here is the late release date of Windows Mobile 6.5 which began in October. Just too late to stronghold / swing the market in its favor.

As Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer openly criticized Windows Mobile in late September, saying that Microsoft had "screwed up with Windows Mobile." It seems many agree.

HD2 might just be the last WM phone I will purchase if WM7 is not up to the challenge.

I believe the HD2 will give WM the performance boost it's needed for so long. I really don't want to succumb to the iPhone pressure of my coworkers and family! :)

Convert them! Make them see the light that is HTC.

Decide what your priority is. iPhones are for the fun-loving class, BlackBerry for those whose priority is emailing, and WM for those who want their business environment in their pocket. Attractive as an iPhone may be, it really is not for serious business use! You don't need to convert your family, and they don't need to convert you. You probably have different priorities!
