HTC Thunderbolt Gingerbread update now offers a landscape mode if used with HTC dock Htcpedia news:The latest over-the-air Gingerbread update on the HTC Thunderbolt also brought a major update for all of the official HTC Thunderbolt dock owners. You can now view the home screen on the HTC Thunderbolt in a landscape mode. Once you cradle your phone it will automatically activate "Desk mode" which triggers your Thunderbolt to display your home screen horizontally. This was not possible until the Gingerbread update (that was pushed out starting October 26th). If you look closely on the image above you will notice that landscape mode displays content a bit different than in the portrait. In the upper right corner you will see a next upcoming calendar event. Below that you will see a scroller of last few Friend Stream updates. That makes up the entire left side of the homescreen in a landscape mode. In the upper right corner you will see a widget for clock, date, location, and weather. At the bottom of the home screen there are shortcuts to 3 apps. The first is the Gallery (for your pictures), Music, and Calendar. The X button on the left side deactivates the "Desk Mode" and puts your Thunderbolt back into a portrait mode. If you click on the button located in the lower right corner of the screen it will simply decrease the background light (useful at night when using your phone as a night stand). The Desk Mode app comes with plenty of settings that can be setup based on your own preferences. Here are the available setting for dock app.
The official HTC docking station for the HTC Thunderbolt was available for sale since June of 2011. If you happened to purchased this dock before today then all you have to do is update your phone to the Gingerbread firmware update (release October 26, 2011) and your Thunderbolt will automatically switch into a dock mode as soon as you cradle your phone in the official HTC Thunderbolt dock.
