A peak at the next generation “virtual book” touch UI from HTC

The game of usability is a big turn-on or turn-off for consumers in the mobile device market. It behooves manufacturers to continually develop and fine-tune the user interface to catch the eye of consumers and impress them enough to slap down monies. After all, for the average consumer the look and feel of a device, not the technology, is what captivates them.

Well, HTC is not sitting still as unwiredview.com gives us a peak into HTC’s next generation of touch UI that is organized as a “virtual book”.

HTC’s patent application, called “Electronic device and user interface display method thereof”—organizing services, widgets, applications, web pages, etc. into pages of a virtual book. A user will just filp through the pages of the book to browse and select the services or functions they want to get at. Sounds pretty cool and interesting way to categorize and present services and functions.

This looks really good.
I see this as being more of a program than an OS though. I think it would be a little awkward having a phone OS look like a virtual book. As a program, or maybe integrated part of the OS (like TouchFlo), this would be really nice to have.

I can't see how this is a huge improvement on TouchFLO/Sense unless they let people develop their own pages for it.

There is no way this is there actual plan. From a design standpoint this isn't better than TF3D 2.1-5. More information needs to be immediatly accessible. This design seems to obscure it.
