HTC Ready to Launch More 3G Phones in India

This December an auction of the 3G spectrum in India will be held and telecom companies will be expected to launch the services by October 2010.

HTC Corporation is ready to take advantage of this by preparing more 3G-enabled devices for India. HTC expects to hold over 25% market share by March 2010.

Ajay Sharma, head of HTC India, had this to say: “With the country opening up to 3G, we can bring more devices from our international portfolio which have 3G-enabled features. Globally 3G has been our forte.”

HTC currently offers 12 smartphones to India and five of those are 3G-enabled; those being the HTC Hero, Magic, Touch Diamond2, Touch HD and Touch 3G.

Sharma went on to say, “We are planning to launch two-three devices per quarter in the Rs 10,000-plus category. These will be 3G-enabled with HTC sense-user interface. The growth driver in the smartphone category will be the user interface — devices which enable access to online content, entertainment data and other sources of information through simple and customised interface.”
