HTC Rezound Wireless Charging Setup Htcpedia news:HTC Rezound is one of the few HTC smartphones that was made with wireless charging in mind. However, the wireless charging battery cover as well as a wireless charging pad are not included with the phone and must be purchased separately, if you want to wireless re-charge the Rezound. There are two things you that you will need for the wireless charging setup. First thing is the original HTC wireless charging battery cover for HTC Rezound and a wireless charging pad, made by LG. We've tried testing it with the Powermat however, it did NOT work. Therefore, we had to get the LG wireless charging pad for our review. Watch the video to see the HTC Rezound wireless charging in action Let's first take a look at the HTC Rezound wireless battery cover and compare it to the standard battery cover that came with the phone. Even though a standard battery cover (on the left) come with plenty metal contacts it is not an inductive cover therefore it is not the same as a wireless battery cover (on the right). The inside of the HTC Rezound wireless battery cover has an inductive mechanism which is designed for wireless charging, but adds a few millimeters of thickness to the inside of the cover. As you can see, a wireless charging cover (on the right) is bigger than the standard battery cover (on the left) and features the same design like on the HTC Rezound extended battery cover. The wireless charging cover does not have the two wholes that can be found on the standard battery cover (to the left of the Beats logo) and does not have the Beats and the 4G LTE logos. Since the wireless cover thicker than the standard, you will notice the difference in the size of the HTC Rezound. Please note, any of the cases that you happen to use with the HTC Rezound standard battery cover will no longer work with the wireless cover. We did test the HTC Rezound extended battery cases with the wireless cover, and they worked great. Other than that, the wireless battery door will cover the standard battery (will not work with the extended battery) on the HTC Rezound and will let you charge your phone wirelessly. However, the is more to the wireless charging setup and that is the wireless charging pad. For our review we have used LG's wireless charging pad (model WCP-700), which can be purchased from HTCPedia Shop and Verizon Wireless for $69.99. The wireless charging pad has two LED indicator lights, power and battery charging. As soon as you place the phone on the wireless charging pad you'll hear a beep and the following notification on the phone's screen: "Wireless charger detected your phone is now charging". The battery indicator on the wireless pad as well on the phone will blink to indicate battery charging. Once you take off the phone of the wireless pad the phone will show "Charging stopped" notification. Overall charging time was fast. My HTC Rezound only had 25% of the battery life when I placed it on the the wireless pad. After approximately one hour the battery was 90% charged. I must say this wireless charging setup is not cheap. This set up will cost you approximately $100-$110 and you may have to sacrifice any of the existing cases you have on your HTC Rezound. Comments (4) By NightAngel79 December 07, 2011 06:53 AM Great review Mark! I want one of these even more now. I will say though that since it seems the wireless door is the same size as the extended battery door that I'd rather have the extended battery. Wonder if there is any 'hidden' differences, ie I wonder if reception is any different with the two. (Reply) By rperillo05 December 07, 2011 11:14 AM Great write up and review. I just wanted to point something out to people before they sspend so much on this ssetup for the Rezound. I recently upgraded to it from my Tbolt which I already had the setup for so all I needed was the back for the Rezound. Unfortunately anyone with a Rezound probably knows by now the volume for alarms and notifications and speaker is greatly lowered when placed on a soft flat surface like the arm of your couch for example BC of the flush speaker placement. No big deal I just flip my phone over now when I place down on a softer surface. However the wireless charging back makes the speaker even more flush so if you lay flat on the pad length wise it smothers the speaker opening reducing the alarm volume and I slept through my alarm BC I couldn't hear it. So you have to turn the phone side ways and position it just right to keep the speaker from being covered. I ended up just getting the dock for it and have been pleased thus far. Plus got rid of the extra bulk from the battle door. It added way more then the wireless door on my Tbolt. Hope this helps. (Reply) By Marchello December 07, 2011 01:55 PM Great point. I totally forgot about this one. I use the pad with the Rezound here in the office and it works out. However, if you are trying to use the wireless charging setup in your bedroom and if you rely on your Rezound as an alarm clock then you'll probably enjoy extra hours of sleep instead of being on time :) (Reply)
