HTC Hero Firmware Update Added to UK Support Site

HTC has released the Hero update for UK users on the download page over on the http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=671UK HTC support site. The long-awaited ROM update is designed to cure a little lag and bring speed to the Android device, as well as a new focus feature for the camera on the Hero.

The ROM was released earlier to the Danish support site and better late than never; now UK Hero users can enjoy faster speeds on their Androids as well.

The update is PC-friendly, though it will remove any previous Orange or T-Mobile updates that the carriers may have made in the time you’ve owned your HTC Hero.

If you download the ROM update from the UK site, let the community here at HTCPedia know how it works out for you, as well as any feedback for the installation process.

My serial number is not being recognised by the download site, and so I can't access the ROM update! Any ideas? I'm on Orange UK. Really keen to install it!

Same here - I got the following message: Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.

I'm also on Orange, and really keen to get the update.

Same here! Maybe its due to our phones being Orange branded (startup screen etc)

Could well be Orange - they usually test handsets quite thoroughly, so probably do the same with Rom updates as well. I've just mailed HTC, so we'll see what they say.

I have an unlocked phone here in NZ which worked. The update has made a huge difference, very fast now between screens and app's load faster. Very pleased.

This just in from HTC, based on email query to their website:

Dear valued HTC customer,

Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.

You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your device.

To clarify your issue, you stated that you have not been able to download an update from our website.

If your device is network branded or locked your network has restricted your access to our downloads. If you wish to download an upgrade to your device you will need to contact your network. They may have customised updates available on their website.

Another possibility is that you have been trying to download a version which is not suitable for your region (as example an Eastern European ROM for a Western European device) which is not possible.

If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site. Please go to: http://www.htc.com/www/support.aspx

Or you can go to: http://www.htc.com/select_country.htm, select your country and then click on the Support tab.

You can also call our Call Center at: 08458900079if you have further questions.

Thank you once again for your continued patronage.

Best regards,
Europe customer support team

just flashed my wifes Hero with the UK update, and all went fine. i had a little trouble with the syc afterwards, and had to reinstall the progeram to get it to work. i used sprite back-up and to be honest i don't knoe what it actually does?! as after restore notification settings theming etc were as if i hadn't bothered..calendar entries and contacts synced eventually with outlook.
The rom is much smoother, but No Java??

I have installed the updated ROM direct from the HTC website itself and can confirm that the UI does run terribly much smoother than before. It is actually surprising the difference it makes. Also opening programs has become much faster.
One issue i have noticed however is that the in-call audio has declined significantly but i am not sure if that is due to other factors. Would be interested to see ifothers have noticed a similar change. I am with Orage btw.
