AT&T To Carry HTC Touch Pro2 & Diamond 2 Under Codename, HTC Fortress & Warhawk

Up till now it’s been confirmed that Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile were all getting the HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC Touch Diamond2 but had heard nothing on the status of AT&T carrying the two latest HTC smartphones. That all changed when endgadget learned that the HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond 2 for AT&T have been renamed to the HTC Fortress and HTC Warhawk for their summer release. The HTC Fortress (HTC Touch Pro2) formerly had a release date of May 25th, but seeing as that’s already passed we’re hoping for a release date of something this summer similar to the release date we’ve seen with other carriers. The Fortress smartphone will be launched with the standard Windows Mobile 6.1 and it’s safe to assume the upgrade to 6.5 will be offered down the road. It comes will all the standard features we’ve seen on other carriers including built-in GPS, a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera and several hotkeys on the face of the smartphone.

The Warhawk (HTC Touch Diamond2) on the other hand is planning to be launched with Windows Mobile 6.5 installed upon its (planned) launch date of August 24th. The two smartphones have varying screen sizes as the Fortress will have a 3.6” WVGA display and the Warhawk will have a slightly smaller 3.2” WVGA. The images seen here also suggest that the phones will feature a front-facing camera suggestive of a video chatting feature that may be offered by AT&T. With this announcement HTC will be firmly implanted in the American wireless market this summer on almost all carriers.

I like the face, and the kb is interesting. I think separating the numerical and alpha keys could be a time saver seeing as how we don't have to hit the fn key to toggle between the two now. And is there any reason why they went from a qwertY to a qwertZ? What possible benefit is there to switching 2 letters?
