Dream Squashed: Honeycomb not coming to phones

When I got done raving about Honeycomb yesterday, I mentioned the lingering fact that Google still hadn't uttered a peep about Honeycomb on phones. Well, no we know why; honeycomb's not coming to phones.
Google spokesperson Andre Kovacs confirmed as much yesterday after the event ended. When asked if Android 3.0 was coming to smartphones, Kovacs said no. When pressed further, he said that "features will arrive on phones over time".
I'm certainly disappointed, especially considering how awesome the honeycomb UI is. I had also hoped that Google wouldn't break up the UI metaphors like this; one of the positives about the iPhone and iPad is that if you know how to use one, you can use the other right away. Then again, Google once said they weren't doing a Nexus 2 and look how that turned out.
