HTC Sense 3.6 & HTC Sense 4.0 - What Is The Difference?
5.0By Athanasios Zarkadas May 02, 2012 04:53 PM
When the HTC One line was announced at the Mobile World Congress back in February we were also introduced to HTC Sense 4.0. We were all happy to see the new Sense operating system change into the easy to use, eye catching, and smooth running operating system that HTC promised.
Now Ice cream Sandwich upgrades are going out to HTC smartphones like the HTC Vivid, HTC Raider, HTC Sensation, HTC EVO, and soon to be HTC Rezound, HTC Amaze and more, but then we were told that they will not be getting HTC Sense 4.0. The upgraded HTC smartphones are getting HTC Sense 3.6.
What is the difference, you ask? Before I get into that, I want to know something. Why is everyone freaking out about the .4 difference in the name of the new operating system? Most have not even tried either one. Before you jump to conclusions, give it a chance. You will see that the differences are extremely small and anyone telling you different is flat out wrong.
Starting with the newly added "Recent Apps page". Older HTC Sense operating systems never had this feature. The recent apps page shows you exactly what it is called, your recently visited apps. Both HTC Sense 3.6 and HTC Sense 4.0 feature the recent apps but they are a little different. In HTC Sense 4.0 it shows up like pages that you can turn from left to right. In HTC Sense 3.6 the recent apps are from top to bottom but both have the sweep away feature, where you can just place your finger on the recent app you want to get rid of and sweep it off the screen. Wow, what a difference (sarcasm).
Whats next? They keyboard. I will tell you the difference even though most of you change your keyboard to something available on Google Play. On the HTC Sense 4.0 the keyboard has quick navigation arrows across the bottom of the screen, and the keys are black with white letters. On HTC Sense 3.6 there is no navigation arrows and the keys are white with black letters. Another huge difference (more sarcasm). Actually, the keyboard in HTC Sense 3.6 is easier to use and has more view on previous texts.
Another little difference is the browser. Before I go in to that I will tell you that Chrome for Android is far better than the stock browser that comes with HTC Sense 4.0 or 3.6 and Ice Cream Sandwich. Once you switch to Chrome there is no difference. But, HTC Sense 4.0 browser has a small pop up at the bottom of the screen every time you touch it that gives you a small menu of choices like add to, bookmarks, saved and tabs. Plus HTC Sense 4.0 has a menu button where the refresh button used to be. HTC Sense 3.6 still has the refresh button.
Your applications page in HTC Sense 4.0 has a small bar across the top that allows you to access Google Play, menu and a search tab. HTC Sense 3.6 does not but you can just press on the Google Play app right there, or just hit your menu button. These are not real big differences here.
Yes the cameras are going to be different because the specifications of the HTC smartphones are different. The same goes with Beats Audio profiles that inside the HTC Sense 4.0. A non-Beats HTC smartphone could not use the Beats Audio profile so why add it? HTC cleaned up the parts of HTC Sense 4.0 to use in older HTC smartphones and called it HTC Sense 3.6. Everyone should be thanking HTC for not crowding up your HTC smartphone's memory with useless software that will not work in their devices.

I agree that there is not much difference, but then you can also say that there are only few differences between GB and ICS.
