Can we really compare HTC with HTC? In this case the answer is yes and I will tell you why.
When the HTC One X came out, we were all amazed at how much it can do and how fast it could do it. Not to mention that it came with a display that put the iPhone in it's place. Now HTC has upgraded it to make it a leader in the smartphone world. But then they decided that it was not enough and gave us a bigger and better display in the HTC Droid DNA. Does that tell the whole story? No.
The displays are both great but the HTC Droid DNA takes it to another level. The HTC One X+ has the same 720 x 1280 pixels Super LCD2 display with 312ppi and the HTC Droid DNA got bumped up to the Super LCD3 1080 x 1920 pixels 440ppi display. Let me just say this. If displays start coming with this kind of HD resolution, 3D will be useless. The HTC Droid DNA looks so good that it seemed like I could dip my finger into the pictures and videos. Both are protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
When talking about size and comfort we are extremely close. The HTC Droid DNA is not much bigger at all coming in at 141 x 70.5 x 9.7 mm and only 138g. The HTC One X+ is 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm and 135g. Basically if you want a bigger display, you will not have to sacrifice comfort and style.
The HTC One X will win in the memory war because of the significantly higher GB count. You can have up to 64GB in the HTC One X+ and only 16GB (for now) in the HTC Droid DNA. Memory is a big choice for most of us and will move us closer to the HTC One X+ if you are not a cloud supporter. But taking the HTC One X+ will only get you 1GB of RAM and 2GB of RAM for the HTC Droid DNA. So, who wins here?
The processor in both are great. The Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz quad core processor is in the HTC Droid DNA while the HTC One X+ has the Tegra3 1.7GHz quad core.
Other similarities include the 8MP rear camera and Jelly Bean Operating Systems.
The rear camera may be the same but the front is a whole other story. The HTC Droid DNA has brought us an amazing 88 degree wide angle 2.1MP full HD camera. If you do a lot of video chat or video blogging, then this is the smartphone for you. The HTC One X plus has a great 1.6 MP, 720p@30fps, but it does not even compare.
The battery is the worst part about the HTC Droid DNA. The HTC One X+ may be smaller in display but it is bigger with battery. You get a 2100 in the HTC One X+ and a smaller 2020 in the HTC Droid DNA. I do not know what HTC was thinking with this one but it just seems wrong. The one thing I will have to find out is why they are giving both batteries similar endurance ratings. Maybe the HTC Droid DNA uses less power and did not require the bigger battery set. We will have to wait and see. The one thing that really separates the battery is that the HTC Droid DNA is wireless charging ready.
The HTC Droid DNA will never be considered a real winner till it is available all over the world. For now the HTC One X+ holds that advantage.
