HTC J Butterfly vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Finally the 5inch HTC smartphone has surfaced and I would like to compare to what we know of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. We all know how amazing the Samsung Galaxy Note Series smartphone is, but how does it match up against HTC's first try.

To start, the new HTC J Butterfly is only available in Japan but we have all been hearing about the HTC One X5 or HTC Incredible X for some time now. So, we should expect to see it everywhere. It may not have the same name but it is coming.

Matching up the display is important on these huge screen smartphones. Even though the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wins with size at 5.5inches, the HTC J Butterfly 5inch display wins with quality. The HTC J Butterfly has the new Super LCD3 with 440ppi full HD display and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has the Super AMOLED at 267ppi, not full HD. HTC may come in a bit smaller but a lot of people think that the Note series is to big. So in my opinion, HTC wins here.

Moving on to processor we have the Samsung Galaxy Note packing the Exynos 4412 Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 and the HTC J Butterfly with the new Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz quad core. Both processors are insanely fast. I am sure there will be speed tests showing both smartphones the winner. We can all agree that these processor speeds are getting to the level of non-competition. Both smartphones also have 2GB of RAM. This we will call a tie, but if you add in the fact that the Note 2 has up to 64GB of internal memory, it takes the lead (at a higher price) then the 16GB in the Butterfly. The one great thing is that both have microSD card support.

The Samsung Galaxy Note destroys the HTC J Butterfly when it comes to the Battery. The 3100mAh battery in the Note 2 is so much of a better option over the 2020mAh in the HTC J Butterfly. The only thing that I could say in the difference of the Butterfly is that it could be running on less power with the new LCD3 and the low nano meter processor. If this is so, the butterfly may not need to be bumped up but I am sure there are many who would disagree. Now you also have to factor in that the Butterfly comes in under 140g while the SGN 2 is 183g. That is a huge difference. Not to mention that the Butterfly is only 9mm thick. Winner?

Both have equally good 8MP cameras but HTC has proven to have the best smartphone cameras on the market. The quality, resolution and color on HTC smartphones is incredible.

For the big kicker that sends the HTC J Butterfly running is that they say it is WATERPROOF! The Note 2 cannot even touch that.

In the end, both smartphones are great and it will come down to personal choice. If you want the bigger screen with a stylus then the SGN 2 is your deal. But if you are looking for an insane display you have to go with the HTC J Butterfly. Both are running Jelly Bean right from the box.

One thing to note about the HTC J Butterfly. Verizon Wireless is getting set to announce the HTC Incredible X/HTC One X5. Let us hope that the specifications are as good, if not better in Verizon's 5inch HTC smartphone.

specs seem unbeatable, but not so keen on design:/ any chance of a one x+ vs J butterfly?
